RTV 900 New Farming Concept In NZ

Kubota have invented a new concept in Farm Vehicles.

Called the RTV900, it's a Light Diesel Utility with small
Low-Pressure Tyres and a Hydraulic Transmission.

It is low to the ground, and carries 500KG of load
in its tipper tray, with hydraulic feeds at the rear
to run your sprayer.

The easy cab entry and exit make it popular with women,
who usually leave the Tractors to the boys. Girls have tended
to use Quad-Bikes as an alternative to the Tractor, but
Quads aren't heavy enough for many tasks, and here
the RTV presents a solution.
Overloaded Quads have killed lots of farmers, and now
you can do something about it.

The Workers will find the RTV harder to trash too,
because it doesn't "Rev Up" and top speed is only 48Km's.
They can take lots of Posts & Wire out on the job as well,
meaning they'll get more done before milking time.

If you bung a 250 Litre Sprayer on the back, and keep
a trailer hooked up for the fencing gear, you might even start
to make money again.

Despite being the kind of vehicle women rave about, it's
interesting that men have bought into the RTV900 too.
Fencing Contractors, Sheep Farmers and Cow Cockies have
added the RTV to their arsenal of farm transport weapons.

Taking your Tractor up a slope to spray weeds is a
serious matter, with many factors to weigh up.
Your RTV900, on the other hand, doesn't need so
much consideration. It's not so heavy, for a start,
and it turns sharply without changing gear. You
can stop it on a slope and restart without taking
your hands off the wheel.
All this is possible due to the Hydraulic Transmission.

This is just a pump that drives the wheels, but it
means that the power is delivered softly, without that
huge crash of force that Tractor gearboxes produce.

Going back down the slope is even easier, because
the RTV900 has a self-braking transmission.
This means that the engine stops the vehicle if you
take your foot off the gas. So you can control your
descent with the accelerator: although there is a
brake pedal if it's needed.

It sounds too good to be true, but it's not.

What's more, you don't need to be a crusty old-timer
to drive one. Anybody who can drive a car will
have no problems with the RTV. There are no huge
exposed wheels to worry about, and no mudguards for
kids to ride either. They only cost about 20 to 30 grand,
which is sensational for a 24/7 diesel workhorse.

Lastly, security: Quad-Bikes are easy to steal, with their high-speed
and small size. The crims are going to have trouble getting away
with your RTV, though, unless they back up a removal truck.

Welcome To PSL Agri's initial Kubota Blogg.
We have been selling Kubotas for about 3 years.

Kubotas have superbly reliable diesel engines,
and have captured the less-than-40HP market
in NZ.

Tractors, Ride-On mowers and 4x4 Light
Utilities are the products we sell, as well as
parts and technical support.

The Light Utility shown below is an interesting
concept Kubota seem to have invented.

What makes the RTV900 so engaging is the
incredible drivability. You can literally jump
in and drive away. The vehicle is driven by
a fluid pump, so when you take your foot off the
'gas', it slows down and stops immediately.

This feature is common to many of the Ride-On
mowers too, and is referred to as HST or
HydroStatic Transmission. Many of the mowers have
only a single pedal, with a seesaw movement.
You press the front to go forward, and press
the back to reverse: so simple.

The Light Tractors are another great success, and
hardly a council or road-mending gang is without
their Kubota B3030 or BX2350.

There again, there are the bigger 100 HP jobs,
which Dairy farmers are beginning to notice.
Probably the reliability of the Kubota Diesel
engine is a powerful attraction to Agri people.

Also beneficial is the simplicity of the Asian design,
which isn't overwhelmingly huge, as so many North American
Agricultural products can be to Kiwis.
Kubotas are made with Kiwi-sized farms in mind,
whereas North American Tractors are based on
properties of up to perhaps 20,000 Hectares.

Alternatively we have the strange-looking
"Zero-Turn" Mowers. Although women find these
models unappealing, they certainly improve
the speed of mowing a complicated lawn.
You can manoeuvre round all sorts of objects
without any difficulty.

Here we have models that store the grass clippings
in a carrier bustle behind the driver. Various ways
of emptying the carrier are available, including a
hydraulic ram which lifts and tips it out.
